  1. Ok, let me see if I understand your question... You already KNOW that the absolute minimum amount of RAM Vista needs is 512MBs. And your question isn't if it'll work with 511MBs or 510MBs, but less than HALF that amount?! NO OF COURSE NOT!!!
  2. vista needs minimum 1gb ram but 2gb if it is an older computer
  3. Yes the minimum for vista is 512mb but the reccomended amount is 1GB for smooth running. You can install vista on less than 248mb however it will be very very slow and take a long time to boot and load up applications. I have windows XP which reccomended is 256mb and thats still rather slow with my memory amount of 256mb. I would stick with an earlier version until you get atleast 1GB of memory :) hope i helped.
  4. If you want VISTA to run slower than a a snail on prozac then by all means go for the minimum requirements but there is a reason it is called MINIMUM requirements. Try it with anything less and well... At the risk of using a majorly over used statement... Computer says no. You will need a minum of 1GB RAM in order to effectively run Microsoft VISTA because the OS alone CAN use 512MB so anything less than that and well... Smoke. Lots and lots of black smoke.
  5. A minimum ram does not mean that Vista will not run, but it is a minimum practical ram. Below which Vista would be so slow that is just would not be worth trying it.
  6. From personal experience lately I have been playing at this one. My vista home basic will not load with 256mb.That machine currently has 1.2gb and runs fine. Vista is described as "capable" with 512mb but being usable is something else. My other machine now has 3gb ram and frankly little difference between running that machine on 2gb. So, my conclusion is if I were you I would add 1gb to the 248mb you already have and I would expect from my findings a usable and tidy machine.
