Vista / Ram?

Hi. Currently i have 2 x 1gb Elixir Ram and 2 x 256mb Elixir Ram so its 2.5gb total. I ordered 2 x 1gb Kingston Ram and i am wondering what i should do ? If i i install all of the 1gb sticks vista will only see 3gb of the 4gb. So should i just sell the Elixir 2 x 1gb ram and replace it with the 2 x 1gb Kingston Ram ? Thanks

  1. Hey Personally I have Vista Premium and I am running on 3GB of ram, and it works fine if your computer wil only recognize 3GB and You're going to have over that don't waste the space, and give your computer more to work for. Install the 3 and sell or keep the 4. You never know upon installation you make a mistake and you need the extra gig.
  2. you seem to know a whole bunch about this stuff, I'm clueless in these things, the reason why I went here is because it said Vista, and all I thought at the time was "DON'T GET VISTA! IT SUCKS I KNOW! I HAVE IT!"
  3. Maximum amount of RAM for Windows Vista (32 bit) Ultimate: 4 GB Enterprise: 4 GB Business: 4 GB Home Premium: 4 GB Home Basic: 4 GB Starter: 1 GB
  4. What is your motherboards maximum RAM capacity and what bit is your operating system? If its 64 bit Vista then you can have 8GB of RAM but only if your mobo supports it. Also many motherboars support two types of RAM but usually the faster sticks can only use up to a certain amount of RAM slots. Sometimed if you want more RAM you need to to downgrade on RAM type. This may or may not be your case.
  5. The service pack 1 for Vista that is out now allows 4 gb to be seen. Your best bet is to install the 4 gb RAM, and then update your Vista with its Service Pack 1
  6. just get rid of the old crap always use new and also uninstall vista and go back to XP its way better of on OS.
